I find myself peaceful, calm and relaxed while spending time in Pushkar. But if you visit at the time of Camel Fair in November, you won’t find it calm. As Camel Fair attracts a huge amount of tourists from all over the world.

Day One

1. Start With Visiting Temples.

Pushkar is famous for its temples, and there are more than 500 temples in town. But if you want to visit only one temple, then visit  Brahma Temple. Brahma is one of the most important goods for Hindus and according to Hinduism Brahma is the creator of this whole world. 

The interesting part is that there is only one temple in the whole of India dedicated to Lord Brahma, which is situated in Pushkar.  This temple is made of marvels and stone with silver coins decoration. 

Pushkar has a few other famous temples also, Which you can visit.

Varaha Temple:- the most ancient temple in the city.

Pap Mochani Temple:- situated on a hill, offers a great view.

Old Rangji Temple:- You will see a blend of south Indian, Rajasthani and Mughal architecture in this temple.

Pushkar lake is a sacred lake. Pilgrims came here to take a holy dip in the water from different parts of India.  As they believe after taking a dip in Lake they will be blessed and go to heaven after death. 

This lake was created by Lord Brahma. And according to Legend lord Brahma was fighting with the demon.  And in this fight, three petals of his lotus flower fell on the earth, and from these petals, Pushkar lake was created. 

Pushkar Lake is surrounded by  52 ghats( bathing spots). And all the ghats are different so visit all of them. But remember you need to remove your shoes to enter and walk around.

In the evening Lake has a mesmerizing environment because of the evening prayer and Sunset. You can observe a beautiful sunset from Jaipur ghat and You will see People performing rituals on different ghats.

Attending the evening Arti at Varan Ghat is a fascinating experience. You will listen to the sound of chants and bells, and feel the fragrance of incense sticks and roses. Also, the lake looks much more beautiful with so many floating diyas (candles).

Thousands of locals and tourists gather around the ghats for a prayer ceremony. On every ghat, you will see some small prayer going on, but the biggest ceremony takes place on the Varan ghat.

Arti starts at 7:00 pm during summer and 5:30 pm During Winter.

Savitri temple is the second most famous temple in Pushkar. Situated on Ratnagiri hill, Dedicated to Lord Brahma’s wife Savitri. You need to climb 650 steps to reach the temple, and this will take around 1 hour. 

Savitri Temple offers a beautiful view of the sunrise, and sunset and the view of the whole of Pushkar town from the top. Remember to check out sunrise time the day before and plan accordingly. Hiking to Savitri Temple is one of the best things to do in Pushkar in 2 days because of its amazing panoramic view.

A ropeway ( Cable Car) service is also available to reach the temple from 7:30 AM to 7:30 PM every day. It’s a good idea to use the ropeway if you don’t want to climb stairs. 

6. Pushkar Market and Shopping.

Pushkar Market is the best place to shop in North India and a calm place for shoppers. As the shopkeeper won’t disturb you while you are only looking at products. 

You will find shops selling silver jewellery, ethnic clothes, cushion covers,  bags, handicrafts, rose products, and much more at great prices.

Sadar Bazar is the most popular shopping destination in Pushkar, and Sharafa Market is surrounded by gems shops and souvenirs.

7. Camel Safari.

Puskar is a great place for Camel Safari, because of its border with the Thar Desert. Many tourists come here, especially for camel safaris and desert camps. 

But the Best place for a camel safari in India is Jaisalmer. So if you haven’t experienced camel safari till now and you’re not going to Jaisalmer, then experiencing camel safari is one of the best things to do in Pushkar in 2 days.

These slow-moving camels will take you to explore thar desert by crossing Pushkar’s small street. On the route, you may watch locals singing and dancing to Rajasthani folk songs. 

You can hire an individual Camel, or Camel cart if you want to enjoy a ride with your friends.  Usually, people go for sunset safari, but you can choose anytime because the safari service is available the whole day. Safari usually takes 1 to 2 hours.

The Desert here won’t be the same as in Jaisalmer but still, this will be a nice and unique experience. 

8. Pushkar Fair.

Pushkar is well known around the world for the Pushkar fair or Camel fair. Pushkar fair is one of the world’s largest animal gatherings in one place for trading. Thousands of camels, horses and cattle were brought here by their traders to do business. 

This 14 days long camel fair is held in November at the time of the Kartik Purnima full moon.  Camels are decorated, painted beautifully and shaved for sale at a high price. 

The Fair also features regional music, dance, the longest moustache competition, a bridal competition, a camel race, etc. 

Pushkar fair attracts 400000 tourists in 14 days. So you will experience Pushkar full of people, and hotel rates will rise high if you won’t make reservations a few months before. 

Best Time to Visit Pushkar.

The best time to visit Pushkar is between November to March, as by this time the weather is cool and pleasant. 

During these months the average temperature will range from 15 to 18 degrees Celsius. During the night weather can be cool but the temperature will not go below 5 degrees Celsius. 

Climbing to Savitri temple, Desert Safari, and overall sightseeing will be more pleasant in these months. 

How to Reach.

Pushkar doesn’t have an airport or railway station. But don’t worry, Pushkar is  17 km away from Ajmer city which is well connected by trains and Buses from major cities like Delhi, Jaipur, Udaipur and others. And from Ajmer, You can easily reach Pushkar.

Train:- Ajmer railway station is the nearest railway station to Pushkar. The railway station is connected with Delhi, Jaipur, Udaipur and other cities in India. 

The train is the best option from Delhi, Udaipur and any long-distance city, but if you are coming from Jaipur, then a bus will be a good option. International Travelers can book trains easily by using the 12go Asia website.

Bus:- Direct buses to Pushkar are available from Jaipur, Ajmer, Delhi, and different parts of India. The most famous route is from Jaipur to Pushkar, and Bus will take only 3 hours to reach Pushkar from Jaipur.

You can come to Pushkar by bus from Delhi and other Indian cities also. I went to Pushkar by bus from Jaipur. but not by public transport, We had a tourist bus for our group.

Flight:- Nearest Airport is Sanganeri Airport situated in Jaipur, 146 km from Pushkar.  You can reach Jaipur by flight and from Airport reach Pushkar by taxi, bus or Train. 

How to Reach From Ajmer to Pushkar.

Pushkar is 17 Km from Ajmer. You can reach Pushkar by taxi, or bus, or you can hire Uber. But the Cheapest way to reach Pushkar is by bus. 

Buses are available from train and bus stations. If you reach Pushkar by train, you need to cross the pedestrian overpass outside the train station and wait for a bus.  The bus conductor will shout Pushkar Pushkar Pushkar. 

How to Get Around.

Pushkar is a tiny town which is why walking is the best way to get around.

 If you want to visit faster, or you don’t want to walk, then you can rent a Bike or Bicycle, as they are easily available in the Pushkar market.
